Field Notes

  • Entirely black plumage.
  • Large, heavy bill.
  • Wedge-shaped tail.
  • Long shaggy feathers on chin and throat.
  • Relatively short legs

Similar Species

Northwestern Crow is similar, but much smaller. Tail on crow is often straight at end or slightly rounded. Crow flies directly from ground, Raven is likely to hop 2 or 3 times in its take off.
