Field Notes

  • Buff colored face, chest and eye ring.
  • Dark spots on chest.
  • Thin bill with pale base to lower mandible.
  • Sexes alike.
  • Often forages on forest floor and can be hard to see.
  • It has a distinctive song It often nests low to the ground.

Similar Species

Other thrushes don't have the spectacled look. Gray-cheeked Thrushes don't have the eye ring and have gray cheeks.  Hermit Thrushes have a reddish brown tail.
