  • Blue-black crest, throat, back and upper breast.
  • Dark blue body.
  • Fine black barring in wings and tail.
  • Black sturdy bill.
  • Black head and legs.
  • Forehead and throat may have some white /blueish flecks.
  • Wings and tail have dark bars.

The Gray Jay is about the same size, but as its name says, it's gray and lacks a crest
