Field Notes

  • Medium-sized long-legged shorebird.
  • Long legs yellow to orange.
  • Long, slightly upturned bill (same length as head).
  • Dark upperside with white marks.
  • White rump.
  • White tail crossed with thin black bars.
  • Sexes look the same.

Similar Species

Greater Yellowlegs is larger with longer bill. Common Greenshank is similar, but not likely to be seen on the Kenai Peninsula.
