Field Notes

  • Dark brown body.
  • White head and tail.
  • Large, thick, hooked yellow bill.
  • Immature: brown overall with white mottling.
  • .Very large, broad winged, broad-tailed with rounded wings.
  • Catches fish from water with talons.
  • Feeds on carrion.
  • Sexes similar, male smaller.

Similar Species

Immature Golden Eagle has white tail with black band at end.  May have patches of white on base of primary feathers.
